Home Studio

So you want to have studio photos done! How awesome is that! Studio photos these days are so much different than they used to be. (Think – glamor shots or your family windbreaker photos with the family at JCPenney, *cringe* am I right?). You’ve looked at my portfolio and you’re ready! But wait, Jessica, you say you have a HOME studio? I’m not so sure about that! Well, I’m here to answer some frequently asked questions to help ease your mind!

‘So, am I going to be walking all through your house to get to this studio space you speak of?’ Absolutely not! My space, particularly, is right in the front room of my house! I have 20+ foot ceilings so I am able to fit virtually any drop or setup! I also have a restroom that is easily accessible for bathroom breaks, and changing outfits, if necessary!

Next, a huge perk is that you truly will feel at home. I welcome everyone into my space and I have a sectional couch to sit and relax. I also understand that kids are kids! I welcome the chaos!

‘I’m scared of dogs, do you have pets?’ The direct answer, yes I do have pets. I have one dog and one cat… and one husband if you count him LOL. However, they are put away (on a different floor of the house) during any and all sessions, and I make sure the house is thoroughly cleaned and vacuumed before every session.

‘I feel like studio sessions have more pressure than outdoor photos, is that true?’ While this is something for you to decide based on the personality of your kids and those participating in your photos, I will generally say NO I do not add any pressure for these sessions! This is why I do not have a time limit on my sessions. Sometimes it takes the kiddos a little while to warm up. Sometimes, they’re ready to go but burn out quickly. This is where i use all of my tips and tricks to get the photos you want and love.

Studio sessions also allow for an infinite amount of creativity to show in photos. With these, I have much more control of the light, the background, the props and the general vibe. Cake smash that’s Bluey themed? Let’s do it! Editorial style headshots? I’m in! Disco ball New Year’s photos? Heck yeah! The possibilities are endless!
