So, your baby is going into Senior year! Congratulations! Now comes all the fun stuff. College, figuring out student loans, moving out, etc. Photos are probably somewhere near the bottom of that list. Did I nail it? That’s what I thought! Well, I’m here to answer all of the burning questions and make it as easy as possible for you to book, shoot, and print the memories that you’ll want to keep for the rest of your life! (We all have a parent, aunt or grandma that still has your senior photo on display, as mortifying as it feels, 20+ years later!)

First off, when exactly are senior photos supposed to be taken? Well, the true answer is whenever you want! The two most popular options are in the fall at the beginning of senior year, or in the spring right before graduation. On the photographer side of things, I really love doing them in the spring, because that is when they have their caps and gowns! Another aspect to think about is how quickly your babies change. No, it may not be as quickly as when they were little, but a school year is a long time and kids really grow up in that time!

Next, where do we even take them? This is something you have to decide with your senior as there are a few different directions I like to stick with – nature, urban, or around campus. Nature is going to be more whimsical, flowers, grass, trees, wooden bridges. While urban will be a downtown feel, sidewalks, buildings, parking garage. Around campus would be great for an athlete, on the football field, around the field house, and with the school sign.

As mentioned for location, the sports your graduate plays are an important thing to document and consider since it takes up such a large part of their life (and probably a large financial commitment from you!) I LOVE to incorporate sports outfits, on and off. Things to consider bringing are jerseys, helmets, bats, gloves, hockey sticks, balls, etc. there is such a large variety of possibilities!

Lastly, I commonly get the question, what am I even going to do with these photos?? Well, digitals are always a must in my eyes so you have these forever and can do whatever you please. Often, parents will use these for graduation & college announcements as well as graduation party invites. Now let’s set those practical things aside for a minute. There are SO MANY cool ways any photo you take with me can be displayed. This is why I LOVE to set up an ordering appointment after my sessions. This can be in person or over google chat! Whichever makes you more comfortable.

This is just the tip of the iceberg! As always if you ever have any questions, ideas, or just want to chat, send me an email or join my VIP facebook group

Until next time!
